I said this in the intro, but talking with Eden and learning more about her mission to educate and give people an easily accessible platform to learn more about NYC has shown me how much I need to dive into learning about the town I live in.
“I really, really believe that knowledge is power and I think it’s really important to learn about the past and learn why thing are the way that they are so that you can understand how you can fit into the picture and how you can make things better, hopefully better, going forward.”
Here is some important info you may hear about on this episode:
Eden’s most recent post:
- one of the first publications Eden subscribed to on Substack.
The
article where Eden’s pigeon and rat tattoos were featured:If I had to get a garbage animal tattoo for St. Louis it would probably be a deer. Those things are everywhere and ruin my garden every year.
Wowza Hangouts - this sounds like the best way to make friends in NYC.
Eden’s current restaurant obsessions in NYC:
Bar Pisellino in the West Village
La Cantine on Bushwick/Ridgewood border
Spongies Cafe in Chinatown
A photo of the fake geographic center of NYC in Queens:
Read “Marker for the Geographic Center of NYC in Queens is Flat Out Wrong” from Untapped New York
Jane’s Walk Festival - read about how you can join Eden’s “Stuff in Sidewalks” tour and learn more about Jane Jacobs a “writer, urbanist and activist who championed a community-based approach to city-building.”
